What are YOU doing? Really... what are you doing with your life? When was the last time you took inventory?
This topic stained my mind for about a week and I couldn’t resist blogging about it...
The question of the hour is, Are you “Taking Up” Space or are you “Occupying” Space?
What I am discovering is that I matter... no really, I matter. Or should I say that I am matter [n.]: something that occupies space. And since I am something that occupies space, that means that wherever I go, I occupy that space. I know this may sound funny, but hear me out. Think about it from a literal sense... the shape of your body takes up space, right? On a more thought-provoking level, your life is space that has been carved out by God for you to occupy. Occupying space means living a life - on purpose, in purpose, and for a purpose.
What seems to be the harsh reality of all of this is that many people live a life that “takes up” space rather than a life that “occupies” space. I see so many people who - if you were to sit them down and survey them on what the heck are they doing with their life - you'd find that at the root of their life, they've settled with a life that just takes up space. They lack vision, drive, a true since of purpose and the passion to pursue anything. They settle for a life that has been forced upon them by the world rather than the carved out life that has been given to them by God. Even Jesus Christ made it clear when He said, "I come that they may have life and have it to the full" [John 10:10 TNIV]. I wonder, what would the world look like if we really occupied or maximized the space that we are in to the full - the space God carved out for us to occupy? In other words, what would the world look like if we truly discovered who we are, became it, and decided to become definitive (complete, full)?
Are you starting to see where I am going with this?
One of my life-declarations is to “BE” a catalyst, to “BE” a source of inspiration and motivation, to “BE” creative. My prayer is that my life - my carved out space - would be occupied/filled with being a catalyst... one whose lifestyle embodies change and innovation. I pray that when I show up in environments where people feel stuck, are vision-less, and lack passion... I bring change, wisdom, and inspiration.
One key scripture that clarifies what I mean is Isaiah 60:1-3. God entrusts us as His children to be a reflection of Him in the earth... light in a world of darkness, hope to the hopeless, etc. We are called to embody hope, love, grace, mercy, peace, liberty, etc. to the world through Jesus Christ. We don’t take up space, we occupy it. When we show up, He shows up because He lives within us. In the same way, becoming definitive means learning to occupy space to the full instead of just taking up space. Remember, occupying space means living a life - on purpose, in purpose, and for a purpose.
God has carved out space for you to occupy, are you occupying yours?

Good post. Send me an email sometime this week. Got a (catalyst) opportunity you may be interested in.
Right now I feel like I take up space. Maybe it's a spiritual struggle I'm having.
GREAT POST!
